Green hydrogen.
Green hydrogen provides the opportunity of a CO2-free economy even in areas where electricity cannot be readily applied. In some industries, such as parts of the transport sector or heat supply, its use not only makes sense, there is often no real alternative. In the steel industry, for example, hydrogen can replace coke as a reducing agent. In the chemical industry, green hydrogen can replace fossil-fuelled processes or even, together with CO2, replace petroleum as a raw material for many products. Theoretically, hydrogen can completely replace oil and gas. Green hydrogen is indispensable to achieve not only electricity transition, but also the energy transition in general.
We make green hydrogen competitive.
Hydrogen can only help with climate protection if it is green, i.e. produced with renewable energies. On the other hand, its large-scale use will only ever be possible if it is also economical. That's why we are focusing on reducing the cost of producing green hydrogen. Together with our clients, we find individual solutions that are also financially viable in the long term.

The benefits for industrial customers.
You benefit from our many years of global experience with wind energy and photovoltaic projects. Careful selection of combined wind and solar energy projects helps to minimise energy costs.
Renewable energy yields are explicitly optimised for use in electrolysis. In order to keep production costs as low as possible, maximum utilisation is needed.
We focus on projects with industrial-scale electrolysis plants that also provide corresponding generation capacities. This allows us to cover large demands at low production costs.
Site selection and transport play a key role in optimising safety and economic efficiency. We can find an optimal solution for infrastructure.
Power-to-X technologies.
Green hydrogen as an energy carrier.
Hydrogen can be used directly or converted into downstream products. These are widely used across various fields. Power-to-X technologies are another option for converting energy from renewable sources to other energy carriers. In addition to hydrogen, these could be heat, cold or chemical energy.
Active projects.
Our commitment in South Africa.
Together with OMNIA GROUP LTD, we are currently investigating the production of green hydrogen and ammonia in South Africa. We signed a memorandum of understanding in 2023. We are planning for the new ammonia production to be based on renewable energy from hybrid sources. The PNE subsidiary WKN Windcurrent is to develop the required overall project that combines energy generation from wind and PV with the production of ammonia. The goal is to produce competitive green ammonia in the order of 100,000 tonnes per year. This would result in a saving of 180,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
Together with S.E.T. Select Energy, we plan to produce and market synthetic fuels from renewable energy (e-fuels) in South Africa. A corresponding memorandum of understanding was signed in 2023. The project on the west coast of South Africa is expected to generate up to 500,000 tons of e-fuels per year from green hydrogen produced via electrolysis. The electrolyser with a nominal capacity of approx. 1 GW is powered by energy from wind farms and photovoltaic plants.
