Generating sustainable energy at sea.

Offshore wind energy.

The project development of an offshore wind farm places particularly high demands on the project team: marine environmental protection, water depth, shipping routes, tides and long distances from the coast make the planning a particular challenge. In addition, the multi-year approval procedure for wind farms is extremely complex and complicated.

Project development.

Complex planning.

Our business model begins with the identification of a suitable area. During site evaluation, extensive surveys of biological, oceanographic and meteorological conditions have to be performed, e.g. relating to wind, marine environment, waves, currents and the ground on which the wind farm is to be built. Further planning focuses on the results of these investigations.

By working with the competent authorities and public agencies, we create all the conditions to bring the wind farm project to the necessary planning maturity for construction.

Financing.

Financing our wind farms in the construction and operating phases.

Once all the essential permits have been obtained, the implementation phase and subsequent construction can begin immediately. To this end, investors are recruited for the project, who will co-finance it during the construction and operating phases.

The projects in this phase have the following prerequisites:

  • Planning is complete
  • Expert opinions have been considered
  • Site investigations have been carried out
  • The appropriate turbines, foundations and manufacturers have been selected
  • Wind farm approval and grid connection capacity commitment have been received

In recent years, PNE AG has developed projects with more than 2.6 GW "ready-to-construct". These include the projects "Atlantis I" as well as the "Borkum Riffgrund" and "Gode Wind" projects of the project cluster. Four offshore wind farms developed by PNE AG with a total capacity of 1,344 MW are in operation. During the construction and operating phases, we also remain available to our offshore projects as a service provider in an advisory capacity.

International.

Offshore wind energy outside Germany.

PNE AG is currently considering opportunities for the development of offshore wind farms abroad.

In Vietnam, we opened an office in Ho Chi Minh City for this purpose and a memorandum of understanding on the future feed-in of energy was signed with the designated province.

In Latvia, PNE and the Swedish Eolus Group established a joint venture at the beginning of 2023 for the development of a project area in the Baltic Sea off the west coast of Latvia.

Projects realised or in an advanced stage of development.
